This is "Chop-chan" (some also called her "Ashisaki-chan," or "Little-Foot"), seen here at about two months old near the visitor center.
She was a rabbit whose left foot had been cleanly severed—an injury that seemed too precise to be the result of a mere accident.
Many people suspected abuse, wondering how such a wound could possibly occur. Unable to run like other rabbits, she dragged her leg along at an awkward, halting pace. Despite bearing this handicap, she persevered and even gave birth to offspring; she lived for a year and a half before ultimately being killed by crows.
